Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure performed to help women achieve fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

A small incision is made either under the breast, through the armpit, or around the nipple. An implant, either saline-filled or silicone gel-filled, is then inserted under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. The advantage of using silicone implants is that they feel and move much more like natural breast tissue than saline filled implants. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but patients will be well enough to go home that same day. Full recovery usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. The outcome of the procedure is immediately visible and the results will be long-lasting.
