A mastopexy, or breast lift, is performed to raise and firm sagging breasts. Over time, a woman’s breasts begin to lose their youthful shape and firmness due to gravity, the loss of the skin’s natural elasticity, pregnancy, or nursing.
This procedure reshapes and supports new breast contour. The underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped. The nipple and areola, or the dark skin around the nipple, are repositioned to a more youthful height. Excess skin is removed and surrounding tissue is tightened. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but patients will be well enough to go home that same day. Full recovery usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. The outcome of the procedure is immediately visible and the results will be long-lasting.
