Non-Surgical - Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion refinishes the skin’s top layers through a process of surgical scraping. It is most commonly used to improve the appearance of scars left by accidents or previous surgery and to smooth out fine wrinkles. This procedure is different from chemical peels because it does not involve the use of chemical solutions, only mechanical instruments. Therefore, it is less likely to create the contrasts in skin color that may result from chemical peels.

Dermabrasion is usually performed with local anesthesia and can be done in a surgeon’s office. The surgeon will use a wire brush that is connected to a motorized handle to scrape away the outermost layer of skin. He will continue until he reaches a safe level in which the scar or wrinkle is minimized. Following the procedure, your skin might be somewhat swollen and sensitive. Complete recovery takes about two to four weeks.
