Home > Procedures > Reconstructive > Skin Cancer Surgery

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S and is primarily caused by ultraviolet radiation. Most skin cancers are removed surgically by a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. These surgeries; however, may leave a patient with unsightly cosmetic results. Reconstructive techniques, such as the transfer of skin flaps or skin grafts, may be applied by a plastic surgeon to repair the damaged tissue or rebuild body parts. If removal of cancerous lesions is done by a plastic surgeon, reconstructive procedures may be performed at the same time. The time and place of these procedures will depend on the severity of the case, but most can be done in the office under local anesthesia. Typical recovery time is about one to two weeks.
